Today, we’re spotlighting Bridal Designs Wedding Jewellery
Introduce yourself and your company!
My name is Tracey Phillips, I’m 38 years old and owner of Bridal Designs Wedding Jewellery. I designs and handcraft bridal jewellery from Sterling silver with Swarovski crystal and pearls.
What made you start your company?
I was working part time in a jewellery shop when I started looking more closely at how the pieces were put together, I decided to look into making jewellery myself and after a lot of reading books and hours spent on the internet I made a start. There was a lot of trial and error involved to start with but eventually I started getting results I was pleased with. My sister saw some pieces I’d made and asked me if I’d make her wedding jewellery for her. I made a few different sets for her to try which left me with quite a lot of excess jewellery, I plucked up courage to approach a couple of local bridal shops to see if they’d be interested in stocking my jewellery and to my delight both said yes! After a year of supplying the shops I decided to start up my website and the rest is history….
What do you enjoy most and what is your favourite part of your job?
I enjoy the making of the pieces immensely but my favourite bit has to be when you recieve a testimonial or a photo of the bride looking gorgeous wearing the jewellery, it’s knowing that in a small way you have helped with the big day that really makes you smile
How do you come up with your designs?
They can come from anywhere…sometimes ideas just pop into my head, sometimes the initial idea is the easy part, it can be turning it into wearable jewellery that could be complicated. I’ve had a few ideas that I thought would look great but in practice just don’t hang properly or weren’t comfortable to wear which is no good for the biggest day of someones life!
Do you manage to ever switch off the phone or laptop, or always sneakily checking emails and calls 24/7?
Nope…never…when I’m not actually designing or making I’m always either on the laptop or glued to my Blackberry – i know now why they are nicknamed the ‘crackberry’
When do you recommend placing an order, please tell us how much notice do you need and how far should couples order in advance of the wedding?
Maximum order time is usually two weeks, this would be for complicated pieces such as the Forever necklace, smaller pieces will be completed much sooner. It would only be longer than two weeks if you wanted a specific unusual colour of crystal or pearl that I had to order in for you. Brides normally order their wedding jewellery when they have chosen their dresses, that way you have it ready when you go for your dress fittings and can try on the whole ensemble.
